Feel the Hwyl

Spring has sprung and thank **** for that! I've never thought I was affected by seasonal-affective disorder, but the tail end of this winter really pushed me to my limits. The rain!!!

That said, i'm generally always happiest in water, on water, or by water (just maybe not underwater 🤔). A water baby from the off, i'm keen to embrace midlife in as much water as possible... which leaves me deeply predisposed to swimming. Yes folks, i'm in my wild swimming era!

Last blog I suggested some cold water immersion was on the cards. And so it came to pass. Along with my immersion into all things Welsh (Dw i'n dysgu Cymraeg a dw i'n eisiau byw yn Cymru) the Easter holidays offered the tantalising opportunity to immerse myself in Welsh water. Bit nippy yes, but worth every dip, especially when the sun put its hat on.

"Hwyl" -- a deep state of joy that comes from being totally immersed in the moment.

There's something so grounding about slowing down, regulating your breath, moving your body, connecting with nature, and realising just how glorious the world (and especially Wales) is.

My Welsh dips coincided with the Artemis II moon mission. Like so many others, I've been moved by the words of the NASA astronauts, encouraging community and unity and promoting the wonder of Earth.

What do you do to feel grounded?

Heat exposure? Cold immersion? Long walk?

Good book?
